Seneca

Support

Questions, problems, and suggestions go to the developer, Sébastien Lavoie:

seneca@sglavoie.com

You’ll get an answer within a few days. If something is not working, it helps to say which iPhone and iOS version you have. Seneca can also make a diagnostics report: in Settings › Diagnostics and Recovery, tap Share Diagnostics and attach it to your email. It holds version numbers, counts, and error codes only, never anything you wrote.

Common questions

What does Seneca need?

An iPhone with iOS 26 or later. Speaking your answers works with the languages Apple’s on-device speech models support. Splitting a spoken reflection into an answer for each question needs an iPhone with Apple Intelligence turned on; without it, you can still type, or dictate into each answer.

How do I change the questions?

Open Settings and tap Edit Questions, or choose another practice in Settings › Practice. You can also choose which answer is carried into the next day as its intention.

The reminder doesn’t come

In Settings › Reminders, check that reminders are on and that Seneca is allowed to send notifications; if it is not, tap Open Settings to allow it in iOS Settings. A reminder comes only on an evening when nothing has been written yet, so a day you have already reflected on stays quiet. Focus modes can also hold notifications back.

The microphone doesn’t record

Seneca asks for the microphone the first time you record. If you declined, allow it in iOS Settings › Privacy & Security › Microphone. The first time you speak in a new language, iOS may need a moment to download its speech model.

How do I use my journal on another device?

In Settings › Sync, choose a folder in iCloud Drive. On the other device, choose the same folder and tap Join the Journal in This Folder. On a new installation, the welcome screen offers I Keep Seneca on Another Device, which goes straight to that step. Each device keeps its own full copy, and changes travel through the folder.

Two devices changed the same day

If two devices change the same day before either sees the other’s change, Seneca keeps both and asks you to choose. Open the conflict, then keep one version, or start from one and edit it with the other beside it. Nothing is lost while you decide.

How do I move to a new iPhone?

Restoring your new iPhone from a backup of the old one brings Seneca’s journal with it. If you use sync, you can instead install Seneca on the new iPhone and join the same folder. For an extra copy, Settings › Diagnostics and Recovery › Export Journal… saves everything you wrote to a place you choose, such as Files.

How do I delete my data?

Delete a single day with Delete Today’s Reflection on Today, or Delete Entry on a day in History. Voice recordings can be deleted in Settings › Voice. Deleting the app removes everything it kept on the iPhone. If you used sync, also delete the sync folder in the Files app. The privacy policy describes exactly what is kept where.

Does the developer see what I write?

No. Seneca has no server and collects no data. Your journal is on your iPhone and in the sync folder you chose, and nowhere else unless you share it.
